Job Summary:
The Utility IT Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the information technology systems and infrastructure specific to the utility industry. This role focuses on ensuring the efficient and effective use of technology to support utility operations, including power generation, distribution, and customer service. The Utility IT Manager will lead a team of IT professionals in planning, implementing, and maintaining all IT systems and applications within the utility organization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement strategic IT plans to align with the utility's business objectives and operational requirements.
2. Manage and oversee the utility's IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, networks, and telecommunications systems.
3. Ensure the availability, reliability, and security of IT systems and data, implementing appropriate measures to protect against potential threats and vulnerabilities.
4. Lead the selection, deployment, integration, and maintenance of utility-specific software applications, such as outage management systems, meter data management systems, and customer information systems.
5. Collaborate with utility stakeholders to identify and assess IT needs and requirements, and provide recommendations for technology solutions that improve operational efficiency and customer service.
6. Oversee IT projects, including system upgrades, enhancements, and new implementations, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
7. Manage vendor relationships, including contract negotiations, SLA monitoring, and performance evaluation.
8. Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
9. Provide technical expertise and guidance to utility staff, including training and support, to enhance their IT knowledge and skills.
10. Stay updated with the latest technology trends and advancements in the utility industry, evaluating their potential impact and relevance to the organization.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT management, preferably within the energy and utilities sector.
3. Strong knowledge of utility-specific applications and systems, such as SCADA, GIS, AMI, and CIS.
4. Proficient in managing IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, storage, and virtualization technologies.
5. In-depth understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices in an industrial control system (ICS) environment.
6. Proven experience in leading IT projects, from requirement gathering to successful implementation.
7. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
8. Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop IT professionals.
9. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
10. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
